In this installment, we learn more about Lucas and an understanding of why Adelaide allows Francesca to walk all over her and nag her into doing things she doesn't really want to. I suppose we all have that friend. I like Adelaide. When she is doing something that we all know that she should not do, I was chanting in my head 'no no no no'. The author is not afraid to put her main character in danger and I have to admire her for that. I enjoyed Adelaide's relationship with Smith and I'm happy that she went out on a limb to help his family. While the main character likes to think she's selfish and doesn't want to help people, I don't think that's who she really is and I believe she is finding that out. With what she learns about Lucas and his ex, I hope that she comes out on top, and what she did was admirable. However, her solution to the main problem was terrible - not in a sense of bad plot, but poor thinking, but what else can you do? I don't know if I would have been able to do that. Once more the story is well written and thought out.Product details

Great follow up to her first book and can't wait for a third! I've fallen in love with these characters!
Got the first book as a freebie...so excited she's finished the second. I'm just sorry I'm finished reading it as it may be awhile before another is out. Ready for book 3!

This was a well written follow up to AC that, while not as humorous, was more action packed. I wasn't as happy with the direction of the story, but I was still very entertained by it.
ADELAIDE UPSET is the second book in the Emotional Graves series by Penny Greenhorn. I recommend reading the series in order from book one.
I cannot say enough about this book and series as a whole. I discovered this series by accident when I happened to see book one, ADELAIDE CONFUSED, for FREE on . I was looking for something different and the synopsis piqued my interest. It surely wasn't a mistake. I thought about the book anytime between reading and for days after its completion. It goes the same for ADELAIDE UPSET. I think I loved ADLEAIDE UPSET even more than ADELAIDE CONFUSED, if that is even possible.
ADLEAIDE UPSET is very well written and funny without overdoing it. I found it to be a unique twist on Paranormal Mystery, reminiscent of Carolyn Crane's Disillusionist series. Adelaide is a reclusive empath. The recluse part by choice. She is smart and witty. I love how she isn't afraid to say what she is thinking. You read what she is thinking and YOU think, "Oh no, she isn't going to say that." Then she does! Especially in her relationship with Lucas. With this information, you would believe she is this way about everything, but she continues to hold the secret of her empathic abilities close to the vest.
You cannot go wrong by reading this series. I mean, ADLEAIDE CONFUSED is FREE and ADELAIDE UPSET is a mere $1.99. $1.99! You cannot go wrong! I read recently on the Author's blog on Goodreads that the good feedback can be overwhelming and may sometimes trigger procrastination because she feels the pressure to please. Well, if ADELAIDE UPSET is a result, then bring it on! What are you waiting for, go make your purchase!
After reading the first book, I immediately bought this one. I didn't see the plot twists coming! Greenhorn has created an oddly endearing main character, who would not ordinarily be likeable. While some of her behavior is strange, it makes sense once you understand the character. The author's matter-of-fact take on characters' paranormal abilities is refreshing and makes for a far more interesting world than most mystery books have. Adelaide Upset starts off with an unexpected twist from the very first chapter, and the turns keep coming!
As a St. Simons Island native, I enjoyed the location and Greenhorn's use of the local culture. This novel appears to have been set in the Island as we knew it thirty years ago! The growing price of real estate and the influx of tourists in the computer age have really changed the local landscape, and I find myself recalling Queen's Court and other less-expensive, family-owned motels, which have been squeezed out in the corporate land-grab. The little community groceries, junk stores, and Island Sundries have been sad victims of the upscaling of St. Simons. (
Thanks to the author for reminding me of old Island times, and the many characters who once roamed St. Simons. There are new ones, but this book reminded me of times past.
This book had a few more editing errors than the first one, but they could be easily remedied, and did not heavily impact my enjoyment of the book. I can hardly wait for book three!
